When there's no signal

Running the course3 minute read

What keeps working on the back nine, what doesn't, and how things catch up.

Golf courses have dead spots. Fairway is built assuming that rather than hoping otherwise.

What keeps working

  • Clocking in and out. The time recorded is when the button was tapped, not when it reached us.
  • Marking a job started or finished.
  • Taking photos on a job.
  • Reading anything already loaded — today's jobs, the schedule, the map.

What needs a connection

  • Anything you haven't loaded yet.
  • Money — invoices, payments, the tee sheet.
  • The drafted suggestions.
Nobody has to do anything

Queued actions sync as soon as there's a connection again. There's no 'sync now' button to remember, and nothing is lost if the phone is closed in between.

Questions

What if two people change the same thing while offline?

Last one to reach us wins, and both are in the audit trail. In practice this is rare — people mark their own jobs.

Does it drain the battery?

No. There's no background tracking and no constant polling. Location is checked only at the moment of a clock punch.

Didn't answer it?

Tell us what's missing and we'll write it. Help that doesn't cover the thing you came for isn't help.
