Importing what you already have
/app/importBringing in a spreadsheet of crew, members or equipment without reformatting it first.
Most courses have the information already, in a spreadsheet with columns named whatever the person who made it called them. Import is built for that spreadsheet rather than for a template we'd rather you'd used.
How it goes
- 1Open Import and upload the file.
- 2Fairway reads the columns and proposes what each one is — this looks like a name, this looks like an email, this looks like an hourly rate.
- 3Check the proposal. Fix anything it got wrong; it's a dropdown per column, not a re-upload.
- 4Apply it. Rows that can't be imported are listed with the reason rather than being silently skipped.
The column guesses are labelled as guesses, and nothing is written to your course until you press apply. A column it isn't sure about says so rather than picking something plausible.
What to import first
- People, so the roster is real before you start scheduling.
- Members and their dues plans, if you're running the member side.
- Equipment, if you already keep a list.
Questions
What file types work?
A CSV exported from any spreadsheet. If you can open it in Excel or Google Sheets, you can export a CSV from it.
What if I import the same file twice?
You'll get duplicates. Check the result of the first import before running another.
Can I undo an import?
There's no single undo. Delete the rows it created, or export first so you have a point to go back to.
Tell us what's missing and we'll write it. Help that doesn't cover the thing you came for isn't help.
