The person who keeps the fleet running and the reels sharp — often the difference between a good course and a mediocre one.

Reel quality determines cut quality, which determines everything a golfer notices about the turf. A dull reel bruises the leaf and the whole green greys off within a day or two.

Service is tracked on engine hours rather than dates, and the hours are on the machine, which is why they only get recorded if someone writes them down.

Fairway is built by people who had to learn all of this.
