The running total on a machine's hour meter — the unit maintenance intervals are actually set in.

Manufacturers publish service intervals in hours, not months. A greens mower doing 400 hours a season and a rough unit doing 900 hit the same interval at very different points in the calendar.

The only hard part is capture. If nobody reads the meter, the interval is a guess, and the first symptom of a missed service is usually an expensive one.
