Servicing a machine on a schedule rather than after it fails.

The economics are not subtle: an oil change is an hour and a part, and a seized hydraulic pump on a greens mower is a week of a rented replacement plus whatever the leak did to the turf it leaked on.

The reason it slips is never that people disagree with it. It is that the interval lives in a manual, the hours live on the machine, and nothing connects them.
