Hydraulic leak

Hot hydraulic fluid onto turf, which kills it in the shape of wherever the machine drove.

It is the most visible maintenance failure there is: a brown line across a green in the exact path of a mower, visible for weeks, photographed by members before anybody in the shop has heard about it.

Detection systems exist on newer machines. On older ones the defence is the operator noticing and shutting down immediately, which is a training and reporting question rather than an equipment one.
