Shotgun start

An event where every group tees off simultaneously from a different hole, so the whole field finishes together.

It makes an outing manageable and it takes the golf course entirely out of normal rotation for the block it occupies. Booking one means blocking the sheet, not adding to it.

For maintenance it inverts the day: instead of staying ahead of a wave moving from the first tee, the crew has to be finished everywhere before the horn.

Fairway is built by people who had to learn all of this.
