Pace of play

How long a round is taking, usually tracked against a target time per nine.

A slow round is nearly always caused by a group two or three ahead of the one being blamed, and by a tee sheet with intervals tighter than the course can actually clear.

Maintenance affects it directly: rough height, hole locations, and whether the crew is working with the flow of play or into it.

Fairway is built by people who had to learn all of this.
